 Question
At what speed do cars typically get the highest gas mileage?
Answer
55
Oil Production by State: Texas=406,000,000 barrels; Alaska=356,000,000 barrels, California = 250,000,000 Barrels; Louisiana=90,000,000 Barrels
Though each car and light truck are different in the amount of fuel used per gallon of gasoline, studies have shown that gas mileage increases rapidly up to about 30 miles per hour (mph), then is nearly constant to about 55 mph. Gas mileage decreases rapidly at speeds over 55 mph. Many factors besides speed also influence a vehicle’s gas mileage.
