 Question
For every gallon of gasoline your vehicle burns, how much carbon dioxide goes into the air?
Answer
20 lbs
CO2 molecule and a Sport Untility Vehicle on a scale
It seems incredible that a gallon of gasoline which weighs about 6 pounds can produce 20 pounds of carbon dioxide gas, but it’s true! The carbon dioxide from motor vehicles contributes to global warming. Vehicles with better fuel economy burn less gasoline, so driving a fuel efficient vehicle helps reduce the risk of global warming.
