Daimler Violations

On September 14, 2020, the U.S. Department of Justice lodged civil settlement and filed a corresponding complaint against Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (collectively “Daimler”) to resolve claims for alleged violations of the Clean Air Act including installing defeat devices in model year 2009-2016 diesel passenger vehicles sold in the United States.

Through the civil settlement with the United States and the California Air Resources Board, Daimler will modify the emission control software in these vehicles and make hardware upgrades with the intent of bringing the vehicles into compliance with EPA and California emission standards to which they were originally certified. The Approved Emissions Modification (AEM) will be available free of charge to all vehicle owners and lessees at authorized Daimler dealerships. Average fuel economy is not expected to change as a result of the AEM installation.
